“a bird belongs not to the nest in which it was born, but to the sky in which it flies.”

today i was watching a documentary called Hecho en Mexico. its main focus is to showcase the spirit of mexican culture through its artists.

at one point in the film an older mexican gentleman was talking about the mexican spirit. in his monologue he said one of the most beautiful things i have heard in a while. he said that a bird belongs not to the nest in which it was born, but to the sky in which it flies. something about that statement touches me deeply. it makes my heart warm and i feel that it is true.

i think we have become accustomed to the idea that we belong to our birth-nests. to our home town, our home friends, our home states. but this is not who we really are.

we are animals – nomads born to roam with the seasons; to follow the stars.
the stars.
and the Sun.
and the birds.

why don’t we do that any more?
